School Profile Gaven Street Gazette

The San Francisco School is a California nonprofit corporation. It qualifies under the Internal Revenue Service Code as a 50l(c)(3) organization. The legal responsibility for the operation of The San Francisco School rests with the Board of Trustees. The Board focuses on long-range goals and plans, hiring and evaluating the Head of School, policy considerations, and fiscal management; including budgeting and fundraising.

The Board is comprised of 25 trustees which includes a large number of parents/ guardians, faculty, the Head of School and external members.  External members often include alumni, alumni parents or Administrators from other local independent schools. Faculty members serve two year terms and all other members join for at least one 3 year term.

A Letter from the Board President

I remember walking onto The San Francisco School campus 9 years ago and thinking – this is where I want my daughter to go to school. There was something about the space, the artwork the energy on the campus and especially the sense of community that spoke to me. Every year, I have the renewed feeling of how lucky we are to have our daughter at this school. My positive feelings and respect for the school have only grown, and this year I am honored to be serving as the Board President.

I now find myself fully immersed in the life of the school, both through my daughter’s experiences and through my work with the Head of School and the Board. The work of the board is critical to the ongoing health and vitality of this institution. It is the role of the Board of Trustees to assure that we hold onto the school’s values and core mission, as well as keep the school financially strong and forward looking. The Board is a vibrant, dedicated group of people who enjoy working hard together in their commitment to all of these things.

When I walk around campus, I am often reminded of my first visit to 300 Gaven, and I realize what a privilege it is to be President of the Board and have my family be a member of this incredible educational community.
