“The indexed tuition program has made it possible for our child to attend a great school that we otherwise could not have afforded. The San Francisco School has provided support for our family in more ways than one.” The San Francisco School values diversity in all respects and is committed to the accessibility and affordability of a quality education. We strive for an economically diverse student body and offer indexed tuition to families that may need support while attending SFS. Currently, 31% of our families take part in the indexed tuition program. Tuition for the 2011-2012 school year
What is Indexed Tuition? Due to our commitment to the economic diversity of our family body, not every student is charged the same tuition. Families who apply and qualify for reduced tuition pay a tuition level that takes into consideration what they are able to afford, based on a complex calculation done through the school and Student Service (SSS), a financial service of the National Association for Independent Schools. The school considers this calculation together with each family's special circumstances and available funds (over $1.08 million this year). Through this program, the 2011-2012 tuition has been indexed from a minimum of 1,000 to a maximum of $20,800 and $22,700 (Preschool/Elementary School and Middle School respectively). This year 31% of our students pay tuitions that are below the maximum. Once a student is awarded an "indexed tuition," the school is committed to continuing to set their tuition at a level that reflects their family's calculated ability to pay. Please read through the following documents found on the left side of your screen for more information about the indexed tuition program: Process & Timeline and Policies. In addition to filling out The San Francisco School indexed tuition application, you will also need to submit a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) Form as well as various supporting documents to Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). PFS forms become available in October and can be accessed online at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss beginning November 1, 2011. All forms are due in early February to SSS; decisions will be mailed out in March (see Admissions Calendar). Please do not hesitate to contact Paloma Herman or Nina Wang, Co-Directors of Admission, for more information about the indexed tuition program. Tuition is based on a child's grade level and is payable in one annual payment, four payments (plus $45 billing fee), or ten monthly payments (plus $150 billing fee). An Extended Day Program is provided at SFS before and after school from 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. and from 3:15 - 6:00 p.m. Extended Day hours are available in 90-minute blocks of time. The price per block ranges from $9.50 to $11.25, depending on usage. Reduced fees for the Extended Day Program as well as SFS Summer Camps are also provided for families who are offered indexed tuition. |
