"In every subject, from Art to Music to Science, the importance of honesty, integrity, individual responsibility, humility, wisdom, justice, steadfastness, and dependability are taught in meaningful ways at SFS." -- Preschool and Elementary School parent
The San Francisco School values diversity in all respects and is committed to the accessibility and affordability of a quality education. We strive for an economically diverse student body and offer Indexed Tuition to families that may need support while attending SFS. Currently, 29% of our families take part in the Indexed Tuition Program.
What is Indexed Tuition? The purpose of the Indexed Tuition Program is to assure the access and the economic diversity of The San Francisco School. For this reason, not every student is charged the same tuition. Families that apply and qualify for reduced tuition pay a tuition level that takes into consideration what they are able to afford, based on a complex calculation done through the School and Student Service (SSS), a financial service of the National Association for Independent Schools. The School considers this calculation together with each family's special circumstances and available funds (over $900,000 this year). Through this program, the 2007-2008 tuition has been indexed from a minimum of $1,500 to a maximum of $16,850 (PS/Elementary and Middle school respectively). This year 29% of our students pay tuitions that are below the maximum.
Once a student is awarded an "Indexed Tuition", The School is committed to continuing to set their tuition at a level that reflects their family's calculated ability to pay. Please read through the following documents found on the left side of your screen for more information about the Indexed Tuition Program: Process & Timeline and Policies. In addition to filling out The San Francisco School Indexed Tuition Application, you will also need to submit a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) Form to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). PFS forms become available in October and can be accessed online at www.nais.org/financialaid/sss or requested by calling The School. PFS forms are due February 1, 2008 to SSS and complete Indexed Tuition applications along with all necessary attachments are due at the end of February to The San Francisco School; decisions will be mailed out in March (see Admissions Calendar). Please do not hesitate to contact Nina Wang, Director of Admission, for more information about the Indexed Tuition Program.
