Extended Day Frequently Asked Questions
Please contact Vivian Walz if you have questions that are not answered here.
How do I access the online sign-up page?
To sign up your child for any Extended Day class, go to the SFS website at sfschool.org, click Families (located on the left-hand side of the home page above the photo), and click "here" in the Portal box. This should get you to the SFS Parent Website, where you can follow instructions to register your child for classes, change classes, or find information about specific classes.
You may modify your child’s schedule by reselecting another class for a particular time. The most recent class selection will be the one in which your child is enrolled. However, if your child attends the second meeting of an Activity Fee class, you may not remove your child from the roster. You are responsible for the Activity Fees for the entire trimester, even if your child does not attend. We hire staff and purchase materials based on the number of children signed up at the second class meeting.
If your child attends Extended Day infrequently it is not necessary to sign up online. If your child is not preregistered, and you wish for him or her to attend Extended Day on a drop-in basis, your child will be directed to Indoor/Outdoor Choice, an art class, or Homework. Please do not sign your child up for an Activity Fee class, or a class with a trimester commitment, if you expect him or her to be here only occasionally.
How do I change one or more of the classes I signed my child up for?
You can just sign up again for the days you want to change and you don't have to sign up again for the other days where you are happy with the original selection.
My child wants to sign up herself/himself instead of having me do it. Is that possible?
Only middle school students are allowed to sign themselves up. Unless they already know how to do it, they should ask Vivian Walz for help at school.
What is the Academic Tutoring Program and what does it cost?
This fee-based tutoring program is designed to provide after-school, small group academic support to first through eighth grade students at The San Francisco School. The program provides small group academic tutoring that is related to classroom objectives, usually in a particular subject area. The tutor works in close consultation with a classroom teacher and/or the Learning Specialist to develop the goals and materials for the tutoring sessions.
The fee for tutoring is based on the actual number of class meetings scheduled for each semester, as well as the time of the class. The fee for a 3:30 to 4:30 pm class is 3.5 extended day blocks per meeting; the fee for a 4:30 to 5:30 pm class is 3 extended day blocks per meeting. This fee is in addition for the regular extended day blocks that are charged from the time the child signs into extended day at 3:05 until they time they leave the School. The fee for families on the indexed tuition program is reduced proportional to percent reduction in tuition.
