REGISTER FOR CLASSES

To register your child in Extended Day classes for an entire trimester go to the SFS website at sfschool.org. Above the photo, click on Families. In the Portal box, click here. This gets you to the SFS Parent Website. From there follow instructions to register your child for classes, change classes, find information about specific classes, and look up Extended Day charges.

You may modify your child’s schedule by reselecting a class for a particular time. The most recent class selection will be the one in which your child is enrolled. However, if your child attends the second meeting of an Activity Fee class, you may not remove your child from the roster. You are responsible for the Activity Fees for the entire trimester, even if your child chooses not to attend.

If your child attends Extended Day infrequently it is not necessary to sign up online. We also have drop-in available and your child will be directed to Indoor/Outdoor Choice, an art class, or Homework. Please do not sign your child up for an Activity Fee class, or a class with a trimester commitment, if you expect him or her to be here only occasionally.

EXTENDED DAY FEE CALCULATION

There are three categories of classes and activities:

1. No-fee. In these Middle School classes and activities, students are representing the school or providing a service to the community. No fee is charged between 3:20- 5:15. If the student remains on campus past 5:15, an Extended Day Fee of 1/2 block is charged. Examples of NoFee classes are Middle School athletics, Amnesty International, Yearbook, Counselor-in-Training, and Band, which meets in the morning.
2. Extended Day Fee. In these classes and activities a fee is charged only for the amount of time a student remains on campus, figured to the nearest block (see block charges below for an explanation). These include Indoor/Outdoor Choice, Homework, and art classes. This also applies to onsite and offsite Elementary school sports teams that are coached by SFS staff members, and onsite teams that are coached by volunteers.
3. Activity Fee. In these classes both the Extended Day Fee, and an additional Activity Fee are charged. These classes offer specialized instruction and additional materials, and are offered on campus as a service to families. These classes include cooking, instrumental music lessons, Fencing, Academic Chess, and Tutoring. All Activity Fee classes have a minimum commitment of one trimester, and the Activity Fee will be charged for the entire trimester whether or not the student attends each class.
   

THE BLOCK SYSTEM

Extended Day is charged in “blocks” that are purchased in advance of use. Currently, for the 2010-2011 school year, the minimum purchase is 10 blocks, at $10.65 per block. Families on indexed tuition pay $9.05 per block. For 100 or more blocks purchased in advance the per-block rate is $9.05 for all families. In general, with the exception of select Middle School programs (athletics, Amnesty International, Counselor-in-Training, Yearbook) and Band, whenever students are on campus before 8:00 or after carpool (3:15 for elementary students, 3:25 for middle school students) they will be charged Extended Day fees.

There will be additional blocks charged (on top of Extended Day Fees) for Activity Fee Classes. Each Activity Fee is equal to one block.

Any child who arrives at school between 7:30 and 8:00 will be charged one-half (0.5) block. There is no charge for arrival after 8:00 AM.

The afternoon Extended Day program is divided into two 90 minute blocks. The first block is from 3:00 to 4:30. Any child at school after 3:15 (for Elementary) or 3:25 (for Middle School) will be charged one minimum 90-minute block.

The second 90-minute block is from 4:30 to 6:00; however, if you pick up your child between 4:30 and 5:15 you will be charged 1.5 blocks. If you pick up your child between 5:15 and 6:00 you will be charged 2 blocks. If your child is in a no-fee class, but stays after 5:15, you will be charged one-half (0.5) blocks.

If your child is signed up for Tutoring, instrumental music classes, or any other class with an ActivityFee, the full trimester fee (translated into blocks, but not including Extended Day time charges) will be recorded on your child’s account at the time of the second class meeting. For example, if your child is taking Drumming, at a trimester cost of 27 blocks for 9 classes, the full 27 blocks will be charged to your child’s account at the start of the program. In addition, your child will be charged one, one and a half, or two Extended Day blocks, depending on the time your child is signed out. If your child is absent, you will be charged the Activity Fee for the missed class, but not the Extended Day Fee.

If your child is not picked up by 6:00 when the school is officially closed, your child’s account will becharged a late fee of one-half block for each minute after 6:00.

DAILY SIGN-IN AND SIGN-OUT

In the mornings and afternoons your child will be checked into Extended Day by the teachers on duty. For elementary and middle school students, students will be signed into the specific afternoon activity for which they have been pre-registered. If they are not pre-registered, they will be signed into an Extended Day Fee only class, such as Indoor/Outdoor Choice or homework.

In the afternoons your child must be signed out of Extended Day on the computer located in the library by the front door. The sign out time will be recorded on the computer, and used to calculate the number of blocks to be charged each day.

Parents who are at school as a volunteer, or who are attending committee meetings or conferences are not charged Extended Day charges for that time, and should click the box labeled “check box only if attending school meeting” to the right of the student’s name.

If a driver is signing out children from Extended Day, he/she must sign out each child that they are picking up. Middle school students who have parental approval may sign themselves out of Extended Day.

Please note: If your child is not signed out, you will be charged 2 blocks for a full afternoon.
