Board of Trustees of The San Francisco School

Executive

The Executive Committee consists of the President of the Board, the officers, the chairs of standing committees, and the Head of School. The Committee helps prepare the agenda for Board meetings, reviews committee reports, recommends resolutions, oversees Board and committee goals, and monitors the implementation of the Strategic Plan. The Committee meets about two weeks preceding each Board meeting.

Committee on Trustees

The Membership Committee is chaired by the Vice President of the Board. The Committee recruits potential trustees, orients new trustees, and attends to the ongoing training of all trustees. As part of the ongoing training, the Committee organizes an annual Board Retreat and other special events to build understanding and camaraderie. The Membership Committee also nominates the Board officers. In February the Membership Committee expands with the addition of one non-board parent and one teacher to become the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee identifies and nominates candidates for openings on the Board.

Development

The Development Committee plans and organizes both annual and capital fundraising programs, keeps the Board informed of its fundraising responsibilities, educates parents, helps facilitate contacts with foundations and philanthropists, and personally solicits donors. An endowment sub-committee is working to build The San Francisco School Endowment. Chairs of the major fundraising events (Auction, Walkathon, Annual Fund) report directly to the Development Office.

Diversity

The Diversity Committee works to increase and support the diversity of staff, parent and student community; proposes policies and structures that honor, support and embrace a multicultural school community; promotes and integrates diversity as a core value of the School; and promotes activities and community relationships that enrich the cultural experience of children, families and staff.

Finance

The Finance Committee, chaired by the Treasurer, develops and monitors the operating budget, capital budgets, investments, salary and benefit policies, and financial aspects of the Strategic Plan. An Investment subcommittee manages School investments. A separate Audit Committee receives the annual school audit and is the Board’s liaison with the auditor.
