The Sixth Grade
Program fully supports students' transition to Middle School, fostering
increased independence and self-awareness as students see, learn, and
do more. Sixth grade teachers work closely together to best build solid,
integrated curriculum and an optimal community setting for students
entering Middle School. Sixth graders learn study and organizational
skills, participate in a variety of team-building activities, do
community service as large groups, pursue independent research
questions, and reflect on their own academic work in a thoughtful
and consistent way. Sixth graders are welcome and encouraged to
participate in all Middle School activities and events.

Making
Art
Sixth Grade Art incorporates a number of media, materials, and
techniques, frequently integrating art projects with areas of
academic study. Sixth Graders especially enjoy turning "junk" into
sculpture.

Presenting
Proteus
Sixth Graders formulate a research question about a country, fully
research that question (including live interviews), write up their
research, and present their findings at the annual Travel Fair.

Exploring
Yosemite
Every fall, Sixth and Seventh Graders participate in a week of
team-building and outdoor education at Yosemite Institute.
