General Statement
Seventh-grade history is a two semester examination of the peoples of Africa, Latin America and the ancient Mediterranean Basin. The course begins with a brief introduction to historiography and epistemology. Next, the course surveys three areas of geographic focus -- Africa, Latin America, and the rise and decline of the city of Rome. Topical foci include the impact of climate, geography, nation building, governmental forms, world-view, religion, artistic and scientific contributions, and the patterns of life of the regular inhabitants.

Throughout the course, students will learn to read critically, analyze sources, craft historical essays, deliver presentations and will receive an introduction to research techniques for formal research writing.

Overarching Questions
