Eighth Graders
culminate their experiences at the San Francisco School with a rich
and demanding year. They are expected to imagine, think, feel, and
act with deliberation and enthusiasm. Students draw upon all aspects
of their learning as they meet increasing academic challenges, lead
their multi-age School Families, and perform individual community
service in the city. The School relies upon Eighth Graders'
leadership and example to younger students while fostering confidence
and mutual support as students prepare for the exciting transition
to high school.

Making
traditional art in Mexico at Carnaval
Every Spring, the Eighth Grade travels to a camp in rural Mexico to
meet and speak Spanish with students from Mexican schools, study
traditional Mexican art and cooking, and to take day trips to larger
towns and historical sites in the region. This student posed proudly
with a creation following a workshop in an artist's home.

Performing
Shakespeare
The Eighth Grade year culminates with a whole-class full drama
production, frequently of a Shakespeare play. Students prepare for
six weeks to meet this individual and group challenge in a full-length,
professional-level production. These students appreciated the humor
in "Much Ado about Nothing" after studying the play's text.
