In seventh
grade we start the year with
drawn self-portraits and then ink portraits, some in light and shadow
using a grid formation. Ceramic dolls, creatures and making costumes
works on their sewing skills. Metal sculpture is a favorite. it to the school's massive collection of "found junk" to create
fabulous junk people and creatures. Learning more about tools and
how they work is a main objective. Discovering how creative one can
get with piles of junk is always surprisingly delightful.
Life drawing from students posing happens each year. Students begin
with quick poses, working up to longer ones with props and using a
variety of media: pencil, charcoal, ink or paint. They select their
favorite pose and reproduce it larger and in painting.
