Second Grade Overview
In second grade, community is the cornerstone to learning; students’ voices are celebrated and shared throughout the day.
- Students participate in class meetings in which they identify classroom issues (logistical or social) and brainstorm solutions.
- Students share their writing and ideas with each other during writer’s workshop.
- Students explore critical issues of social justice during book discussions.
- Students learn metacognitive strategies that help them understand how they learn.
- Students develop an understanding of how each has different learning styles with different strengths and challenges.

Elementary School classes are split during Math, Language Arts and Spanish thus making the student teacher ratio approximately 1:5. This allow for more concentrated one-on-one attention during the study of core academic subjects.
