Second Grade Overview

  Second graders
In second grade, community is the cornerstone to learning; students’ voices are celebrated and shared throughout the day.

  • Students participate in class meetings in which they identify classroom issues (logistical or social) and brainstorm solutions.
  • Students share their writing and ideas with each other during writer’s workshop.
  • Students explore critical issues of social justice during book discussions.
  • Students learn metacognitive strategies that help them understand how they learn.
  • Students develop an understanding of how each has different learning styles with different strengths and challenges.

* Elementary School classes are split during Math, Language Arts and Spanish thus making the student teacher ratio approximately 1:5.  This allow for more concentrated one-on-one attention during the study of core academic subjects.
