The mission of the San Francisco School library
is to provide information and technology resources that support and enhance
the intellectual, imaginative and humanitarian promise of each student.
Our library is an open environment available to students, faculty and staff
anytime during school hours. All students - from preschool through
eighth grade - can check out books and use library resources.
Our library collection reflects the San Francisco School's commitment to
practicing mutual respect, embracing diversity and inspiring a passion for

| LIT-WIT: Library Information Technology - We Inspire Thinking! |
| |
|
The San Francisco School Library's vision for the 21st
century is expressed through our Library Information Technology program. LIT-WIT
combines information literacy skills with computer technology to give our students
strategic thinking tools ideally suited to in-depth intellectual, imaginative
and humanitarian studies.
LIT-WIT has started to extend library services into the classroom and extracurricular
student activities to provide students and faculty with exciting and varied
possibilities for information retrieval and presentation:
- We teach search and evaluation strategies for internet
and database resources that make the best use of the latest technologies.
- We teach website development and desktop publishing
to give our students new ways of expression that fit their individual learning
styles and keep the passion for learning fueled.
- We collaborate with teachers to build curriculum
that honors, enhances and addresses the developmental needs of their students.
Ultimately, technology and enhanced services will make our library available
to every student, faculty and staff member anytime and anyplace, whether they
are in the classroom, at home or roaming between classes on campus.
