Steve Morris is in his 14th year as the Head of The San Francisco School. He has been working as a teacher and administrator in independent schools for the past 25 years. Before starting his work as Head of School, Steve was the Assistant Head of School for four years. Prior to that, Steve was the Dean of Multicultural Programs at University High School (UHS). In addition to his work in administration at UHS, Steve also taught English, served as the Community Service Learning Co-Director, and coached varsity soccer. His teaching career began at Sewickley Academy in Sewickley, PA, where Steve taught 9th grade English. Prior to working in independent schools, Steve was the Executive Director of Summerbridge Pittsburgh.

Beyond the classroom and school office, Steve has presented at conferences across the country on subjects ranging from school culture to faculty development and multicultural education. Most recently, Steve co-created/facilitated a year-long series of workshops for Aspiring Leaders of Color, participated in the 2015 NAIS Deep Dive Summit which focused around matters of Equity and Social Justice and attended the Klingenstein Fellowship for Heads of School. Steve has served as a Trustee on numerous Boards including but not limited to: Marin Country Day School (MCDS), The San Francisco Day School, The Urban School of San Francisco, Bay Area Teacher Training Initiative (BATTI), California Teachers Development Collaborative (CATDC), People of Color in Independent Schools (POCIS), and Youth Speaks, a San Francisco-based arts program. He currently serves as the Board Chair of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS).

Steve and his wife, Beth Goya, have three children. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from Stanford University where he completed The Principal Fellows Program. He earned his BA in English at The College of Wooster.
