Tuvan Throat Singers at Singing Time

Tagged with:

Today’s Elementary Singing Time featured a very special performance.

Alash, a group of singers from the Republic of Tuva visited school today to share about their life, traditions and music - particularly their instruments and distinctive style of singing.

At the end of the presentation the students had time to ask questions. They wondered:

  • How old are children when they first start to learn to sing that way? (As young as 4 years old)
  • Is it hard to learn how to sing that way? (A little)
  • Do girls sing in that style too and do they also ride horses and work on farms like the boys? (Yes!)

The session concluded with a chance for everyone to join in. The final check-in was “Show me with your thumbs how much you enjoyed that.”
