Preschool

Daily Activities

The Preschool schedule incorporates long blocks of time to allow children to explore and engage deeply with projects, peers, and play.

Sample Schedule

8:45 - 9:00 am. Arrival Time
Students are dropped off in our white zone. Caregivers may drop children earlier (starting at 8:00 am) for Extended Care.

9:00 - 9:20 am. Morning Circle
Teacher and children greet each other and share songs, schedule of the day, story, birthday celebrations,  projects, and activities.

9:30 - 10:00 am. Morning Work
Students might engage with self-selected or teacher-selected activities, including rug toys, Montessori curriculum materials, books, beginning sound or math concept games, painting, or science activities. Teachers circulate through the classroom to work with individual children and small groups.

10:00 - 10:15 am. Snack
Children eat a healthy snack, often with music or a story.

10:15 - 11:00 am. Outdoor Play or Specialist Time
Weather permitting, all children head outside for a variety of independent and teacher-led choices. Teachers offer a variety of gross-motor activities. Students might play in the sandbox, build with crates and boards, play basketball, ride a trike, swing, or scale the climbing wall.

Throughout the week, students attend Music, Spanish, and Health & Wellness classes at various times.

11:00 am - 12:00 pm. Circle and Free Choice
Students may choose to work or play independently or with a group of their peers. Students might create an arts and crafts project, build structures using blocks or other building toys, read books or listen to stories in the reading nook, work on a practical life activity at their desk, spend time in the dramatic play area, put puzzles together, or play a game with a friend.

12:00 - 12:30 pm. Lunch
Students set their own places for meals, help with meal service, and wait patiently until each child is served. After lunch, children clear their own dishes and clean up.

12:30 - 1:00 pm. Outside Play

1:00 - 1:30 pm. Afternoon Circle and Follow-up Activities
