Family Association

Coming together to build a strong community at SFS.

All parenting adults at The San Francisco School are part of the Family Association (FA). The FA plays an essential role in nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, and connected school community. In partnership with school leadership, the FA supports the mission and values of SFS by:

  • Fostering meaningful connections among families, faculty, and staff
  • Encouraging family involvement through volunteer opportunities and events
  • Promoting open, two-way communication between families and the school
  • Celebrating the rich diversity of our community through inclusive programming

There are countless ways to get involved throughout the school year, from volunteering at an event to joining monthly meetings and taking on a leadership role. Volunteering may include helping to set up for a family dance on campus, dropping off ice cream or coffee for SFS staff during appreciation week, organizing students to make colorful signage for an event, running a potato sack race at a picnic, or attending one of our many family education or community service events.

Family Association Leadership

The FA is led by a collective of parenting adults who volunteer for a leadership role for two school years. The leadership team sets annual goals for the FA and oversees the management and communication of FA events and initiatives that are powered by volunteers across the school community.

The FA monthly meetings are open to all parenting adults. If you are interested in learning more about leadership roles or other ways you can get involved, please reach out to FA Co-Chairs Barnali Mishra and Meghan Davidson at fa@sfschool.org.

Leadership Roles

FA Co-Chairs

Named by the Director of Community and Culture, each FA Co-Chair serve staggered two-year terms. They facilitate monthly leadership meetings, set annual goals, support the work of the FA Leads, and meet monthly with the Head of School. The second year co-chair serves as an ex-officio member of the board of trustees and serves on the board's Nominating Committee.

Affinity & Alliance Groups

Join an Affinity or Alliance Group

The Family Association hosts Affinity and Alliance Groups for community members with common identities. These groups organize social events throughout the year and partner with the School to create awareness and belonging both within groups and the larger school community. Affinity Groups often support cultural identity-based events and heritage celebrations.
